Transport Health Fund Guide

Transport Health began in 1888 as a way to serve the needs of Melbourne Tramway employees. Since then, Transport Health has grown substantially to service all transport workers and their families.

In 2014, Transport Health lifted the transport industry restriction and opened the door to all Australians who were in search of health insurance. This change caused the fund to grow by over 50%.

Transport Health allows Australians flexibility in their coverage. You can select hospital and extras policies separately, or combine them into something that fits your specific lifestyle.

There is also a 30-day “cooling off” period with Transport Health. If you haven’t filed a claim, you can cancel or change your policy within the first 30 days of purchasing.

  • Transport Health started as an exclusive provider to the transportation industry but opened its doors to all Australians in 2014.
  • You can purchase health, extras, and packaged policies from Transport Health.
  • Transport Health offers a few different ways to file a claim. You can receive reimbursement through cheque or direct deposit into your bank account.

Extras Cover

Transport Health has two extras policies: Healthy Choice and Top Extras.

Healthy Choice provides several essential extras benefits like dental, optical, physio, chiro, and more.

Top Extras gives you the whole range of extras benefits with more money back and higher annual limits. You can get up to 60% or even 100% back on some services with Top Extras.

Mix and match the hospital and extras packages on offer to come up with one that suits you best. GMHBA makes suggestions based on your family type: single, couple, family, or single parent.

There are two packages from Transport Health: Young Singles Combined Cover and Young Couples Combined cover.

Both of these packages include mid-range hospital coverage and basic extras coverage for healthy, young singles or couples. A $500 excess applies per hospital stay, up to $500 per person per calendar year and, for the couples policy, $1000 per membership per calendar year.
